Seaman William "Spider" Webb is a fictional character on the Australian television show Sea Patrol. He is portrayed by Jay Ryan.
William Webb (Spider or Billy) is a boatswain's mate on HMAS Hammersley.
Webb is portrayed as rather immature and rash on occasions. He and crewmate Bomber have something of a love-hate relationship, but their friendship is strengthened as they endure several life-threatening situations together.
His inexperience has led to potentially deadly situations. On one occasion he is distracted while guarding two mercenaries on board a fishing boat. They manage to disarm him and this leads to the Charge being stabbed with a screwdriver. Charge recovers and returned to Hammersley. His second encounter with the mercenary who stabbed Charge again endangers a fellow crew member's life. He is distracted and separated from the XO during the land-based search for the mercenary. The mercenary then knocked him unconscious with a diving belt and stole his weapon. The mercenary shot the XO in the back, but her body armour stopped the bullet.
In the third series of Sea Patrol, Spider becomes more mature as he meets 2 Dads. Because this character is so much more immature than Spider, Spider becomes aware of his responsibilities on Hammersley. He leaves the series at the end of season 3.
In the Heaven born Captains Episode of Sea Patrol 2 : The Coup, he steals the French flag during the Samuran - Australian Reception, and back on Hammersley, Capitaine de frégate Josephine Durand rings the crew and speaks to Mike Flynn about a stolen French flag.
